It is the pinstripes that get their attention. But it's the stories that make a lasting impression.
When a pair of former New York Yankees come to school, kids take notice. It doesn't matter that they're not Derek Jeter or Alex Rodriguez. The Yankee mystique provides a platform from which Rosendo "Rusty" Torres and Frank Tepedino are mentoring young people. They've been reaching out for more than a decade, talking baseball but preaching responsibility.

Thirteen years ago, Winning Beyond Winning, Inc. was formed with a mission to present life skills programs for children and to help support former professional athletes. Since that time, we have presented meaningful life skills programs and literacy programs to over 45,000 children. That has all been made possible through the generous donations of people like you.
Five years ago, former NY Yankee, Frank Tepedino, became the President of the Firefighters Charitable Foundation, which has done great work helping victims of fire and disaster and assisting other charitable organizations.
Along with fellow former Yankee, Rusty Torres, one of our main presenters was legendary Yankee reliever Ryne Duren, who graciously lent his efforts to our charity, and his name to our golf outing. Ryne passed away on January 6, 2011, but his spirit lives on. We are proud to announce the establishment of the Ryne Duren Seminar Series, focusing on the prevention of alcohol abuse.
I invite you to help us remember Ryne at this inaugural Memorial Tournament, by joining us as a golfer or a sponsor.

Ryne Duren, the star relief pitcher for two Yankee World Series teams who stared down batters through thick-lensed eyeglasses and then delivered fastballs that might go just about anywhere, died Thursday at his home in Lake Wales, Fla. He was 81.
His death was announced by his stepson Mark Jackson, The Associated Press said.
